Who we are

Hub Solar and Electrical is the trading name of Hub Electrical Solutions Pty Ltd (ABN 61001423981, NSW contractor licence 179987C) (Hub, we, us or our). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information in connection with our website at www.hubse.com.au, enquiries, quotations and electrical, solar and related services.

We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) where they apply to us. We also aim to apply the standards described in this Policy to the personal information we handle even where a particular legal requirement does not apply.

1. Scope of this Policy

This Policy applies to personal information we collect online and through our business activities, including when you browse our website, request a quote, contact us, arrange a site inspection, engage us, interact with our team, make a payment, seek warranty or maintenance support, or apply to work with us.

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. Information that has been de-identified so that an individual is no longer reasonably identifiable is not personal information.

2. The information we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect and hold:

  1. Identity and contact details, such as your name, residential or business address, postal address, email address and telephone number.
  2. Property and project details, such as the installation address, your authority to request work, access arrangements, building type and site constraints.
  3. Electrical and energy information relevant to a quote or service, such as electricity bills and usage data, meter or National Metering Identifier details, switchboard and wiring information, existing generation or battery equipment, roof characteristics, shading, proposed loads and energy preferences.
  4. Enquiry, quotation and service information, including requested work, plans, specifications, equipment preferences, appointments, job notes, communications, approvals, variations, warranties, maintenance history, complaints and outcomes.
  5. Site records, including photographs, video, test results and other records reasonably required for design, quoting, installation, compliance, safety, warranty or dispute management.
  6. Billing, payment and transaction information. Where a third-party payment provider processes a payment, it may handle full card or account details under its own privacy policy while we receive confirmation and limited transaction information.
  7. Website and device information, such as IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, links selected, referring page, approximate location, date and time of access, cookie identifiers and website interactions.
  8. Marketing preferences, feedback, survey responses, testimonials, reviews and social-media interactions.
  9. Employment or contractor application information if you apply to work with us, such as qualifications, licences, work history and references.

We do not generally need sensitive information. If sensitive information is reasonably required—for example, health or accessibility information needed to arrange safe site access—we will collect it with consent or as otherwise permitted by law.

3. How we collect information

We may collect personal information:

  1. Directly from you through website forms, email, telephone, SMS, meetings, site inspections, invoices, payments, surveys and other interactions.

  3. From referral partners, suppliers, manufacturers, finance or payment providers, electricity retailers, electricity network businesses, solar program participants or warranty providers where relevant to your enquiry or service.
  4. Automatically when you use our website, through server logs, cookies, analytics and similar technologies.
  5. From public or lawfully available sources, such as business registers, property information, public social-media profiles and licence or accreditation registers.

Where practicable, you may deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym. We may be unable to provide a site-specific quote, enter into a contract, obtain approvals, perform work, issue compliance documents or provide warranty support unless we can identify you and the relevant property.

4. Why we collect, use and disclose information

We may handle personal information to:

  1. Respond to enquiries, confirm your requirements and communicate with you.
  2. Assess a property or project, prepare designs and quotations, and arrange inspections and appointments.

  7. Meet safety, licensing, tax, accounting, insurance, record-keeping and other legal or regulatory obligations, including electrical compliance obligations.
  8. Operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve our website, systems, services and customer experience.
  9. Send service messages and, where permitted, marketing communications.
  10. Prevent, detect and investigate fraud, misuse, security incidents or unlawful activity.
  11. Exercise or defend legal rights, respond to regulators or law-enforcement bodies, or complete a proposed business transaction.

If we wish to use personal information for a materially different purpose, we will obtain consent or ensure that the use is otherwise permitted by law.

  7. Other persons where you direct or authorise us, or where disclosure is required or permitted by law.

We do not sell customer contact lists for money.

6. Website analytics, cookies and similar technologies

Our website may use cookies, pixels, tags, local storage and similar technologies to operate the site, remember preferences, understand website use, measure campaigns and deliver or assess advertising. These tools may collect website and device information and may disclose it to third-party providers.

In the event third parties do collect information, the handling of information is also governed by their own privacy terms.

You can control some technologies through any cookie controls we provide and through your browser or device settings. Blocking cookies may affect some website features. Where consent is legally required for a technology, we will seek it through an appropriate mechanism.

7. Direct marketing

With your consent, or where otherwise permitted by law, we may use your contact details to send information about services, maintenance, promotions or energy-related offers that may interest you. We will identify ourselves and provide a functional way to opt out of commercial electronic messages.

You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe facility in the message or emailing us. We may still send non-marketing communications that are reasonably necessary for an enquiry, quote, contract, safety notice, warranty or service.

8. Overseas disclosures

Some of our service providers may store, process or access personal information outside Australia. The countries in which overseas recipients are likely to be located are: New Zealand and United States of America.

Where the APPs apply and we disclose personal information overseas, we will take reasonable steps required by law in relation to that disclosure. The privacy protections in another country may not be the same as those in Australia.

9. Security and retention

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Measures may include access controls, authentication, secure systems, backups, staff practices and service-provider controls. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure.

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this Policy and to meet legal, tax, licensing, insurance, warranty, safety, record-keeping and dispute requirements. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or de-identify it, subject to lawful backup and archival processes.

10. Data breaches

We maintain processes for responding to suspected loss, unauthorised access or unauthorised disclosure of personal information. Where the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme applies and an eligible data breach occurs, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.

11. Access and correction

You may request access to personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. Contact our Privacy Contact using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

We will respond within the period required by applicable law. In some circumstances, the law permits us to refuse access or correction. If that occurs, we will generally give written reasons and explain available complaint options, unless it would be unreasonable or unlawful to do so. We will not charge to make a request; a reasonable charge may apply for providing access where the law permits.

12. Privacy complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please send a written complaint to our Privacy Contact. Include enough detail for us to understand and investigate the issue. We will acknowledge the complaint, investigate it and aim to provide a written response within 30 days, although complex matters may take longer. We will keep you informed if more time is reasonably required.

If you are not satisfied with our response and the Privacy Act applies, you may contact the OAIC at www.oaic.gov.au. The OAIC generally expects you to give us a reasonable opportunity to respond first.

13. Third-party websites and social media

Our website may link to third-party websites, portals and social-media services. Those services are responsible for their own privacy practices. Review their privacy policies before providing personal information to them.

14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes to our practices, systems, services or legal obligations. The current version will be published on our website with its last-updated date. Material changes may also be communicated in another reasonable way.
